CARE AND MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS
Following these simple recommendations will allow you to keep them in perfect condition for a long time.
Precious stones and metals are delicate materials. Our advice is to choose the jewel according to your lifestyle. It is preferable not to wear Bizzotto jewels in the following situations:
- When washing your hands, to prevent soap residue from settling in the gaps and blackening the jewel.
- When carrying out activities that require the use of corrosive products (gardening, cleaning, washing dishes, etc.) to avoid damaging the stones that embellish the jewel.
- When doing sports, to avoid bumps and scratches.
We also recommend that you avoid:
- Exposure to intense heat sources: Temperature changes can damage gemstones.
- Applying perfume and make up while wearing a Bizzotto jewel as the chemical ingredients contained in cosmetics can damage some stones.
Some more tips if you wear jewelry with precious stones
- It is best not to wear gemstone jewelry when playing sports, working with heavy equipment, or going to a pool or spa (especially when in contact with chlorine). Gemstones can be chipped by strong impacts and everyday actions that can loosen the setting.
- It is best to avoid situations where gemstones may come into contact with bleach, hairspray or other chemicals to prevent erosion and discoloration of the setting. Gemstone jewelry is best worn after applying makeup or perfume and after using hair products.
We also recommend always closing the clasp to avoid knots. It is important to store your gemstone jewelry properly to avoid scratches. We invite you to follow these tips:
- Store your jewelry individually, each in its own bag: this prevents scratches from contact with other precious stones.
- To store your gemstone jewelry, use a lined jewelry box or jewelry box with dividers.
Before wearing it:
- Check that the locking systems work perfectly.
- Check that the stones are firmly set: to do this, gently run your finger over the stones. If they move, you will need to contact your trusted jeweler to adjust the setting.
- Check that the silk thread of your necklace is not loose. If it is, you will need to have the pearls re-strung on a new thread.
If you have any doubts, we invite you to take your jewel to your trusted shop to be checked by jewelry experts.
We recommend that you take your jewel to your trusted goldsmith every year for a thorough cleaning.
Gold has unique qualities. It is resistant to rust, oxidation and corrosion. Although it is very durable, gold is also the most malleable of all precious metals.
Purity
Pure gold is too soft for everyday use. To make it solid and long-lasting, it must be bonded to a careful mix of metals such as silver, copper and zinc. The carat, denoted by a number followed by the letters “kt”, indicates its purity, that is, the percentage of gold in the total metal mass of a jewel. The carat is expressed in 24ths: 24kt gold is 100% gold. Bizzotto jewels are made exclusively in 18kt gold, an alloy with a 75% gold content: this makes them precious, but at the same time resistant even for wearing every day. Bizzotto chooses only the highest quality alloys that combine natural and hypoallergenic metals in compliance with the European Union nickel directive.
Color
The color of gold depends on two factors:
- The type of metal alloy
- The percentage of each metal alloy
Yellow gold
Natural gold and colored alloys give yellow gold jewelry its unmistakable shine. The most commonly used alloys are red copper and greenish silver. The perfect blend of copper, silver and pure gold gives this precious metal its characteristic warmth.
White gold
The platinum white finish of white gold jewelry gives the eyes an emotion of charm and uniqueness. To make it white, gold is combined with metal alloys that are naturally white and is plated with rhodium. Despite its hardness, rhodium can wear away over time. Replating is a simple but important procedure because it allows you to renew the white rhodium plating of jewelry.
White gold with black rhodium
White gold plated with black rhodium creates a deep black surface that is extremely solid and strong. Black rhodium, like white rhodium, can wear away over time. Again, replating is a simple but important procedure because it allows you to renew the white rhodium plating of your jewelry.
Rose gold
A copper alloy is used to create the pink color of rose gold jewelry. The total percentage of metal alloys in rose gold is the same as in yellow or white gold: the difference lies in the mixture of alloys chosen.

Gold Care
Gold is a natural element: for this reason, corrosive chemicals such as bleach or other cleaning products can corrode it. To reduce abrasions and make its beauty infinite, we recommend removing the jewelry when using products of this type. To clean your jewelry, use warm water, a soap without detergent and a soft-bristled brush: after cleaning, dry the jewelry with a soft cloth. When you are not wearing it, store the jewelry in soft bags or in its box. To protect it from possible scratches, avoid rubbing gold jewelry with other jewelry. Polishing and rhodium plating allow you to recover almost entirely the original brightness of white gold and eliminate any signs caused by wear.
To maintain the shine and luster of your gemstones, it is essential to clean your jewelry regularly. When worn, jewelry can become dirty if you apply cosmetic products such as soaps and lotions, or just from the natural oils in your skin. Even when not being worn, jewelry collects dust. If you want to clean your jewelry at home, there is no need to worry – it is a simple procedure that gives good results; but before you choose this method, you should be aware of the difference between cleaning your jewelry at home and cleaning it by a licensed professional jeweler.
- To clean gemstone jewelry, rub it with a soft cloth to remove any surface dirt. If desired, use a soft-bristled brush such as an eyebrow or lip brush, followed by soap and water. Do not use toothpaste or other abrasive products on the stones or setting. Mix warm water with a mild detergent and immerse the jewelry. Do not use hot or boiling water to clean the stones. Then gently brush the gemstones while they are immersed. Rinse well. Dry them with a soft cloth or jewelry polishing cloth. You can also use jewelry cleaning products or ready-to-use kits available at most retailers. Always carefully follow the suggestions and instructions on the back of the product.
- Another cleaning solution is a home ultrasonic cleaner. This device is more effective than a simple gentle detergent, but it should be used with extreme caution. It can be used to clean rubies, sapphires, diamonds, iolite, amethyst, citrine, garnet, chrysoberyl and gold jewelry without stones; it is not suitable for stones such as emerald, pink tourmaline, peridot, pearls, coral, lapis lazuli, malachite, turquoise and any other stone that has inclusions because it can seriously damage them. When in doubt, do not use this tool to clean your stones.
- We recommend that you have your jewelry cleaned once a year by a licensed professional jeweler who will also check the condition of the jewelry setting and determine if any loose or bent prongs need to be adjusted to hold the gemstones in place.
- Technically, modern ultrasonic cleaning machines clean jewelry by “bombarding” it with sound waves. Its vibrations help remove dirt, but they can also damage gemstones, especially delicate stones such as emeralds. Inclusions can be seriously damaged by shaking, resulting in a loss of value and beauty of the stone. We suggest you always use these devices with extreme caution.
